Event Security Guard (Casual / On-Call)

Join Parthenais Security Services as a Casual Event Security Guard and help provide a safe, professional, and welcoming environment at festivals, concerts, community events, private functions, and other special events.

Cornwall, ON & Surrounding Areas Casual / On-Call $18.00-$25.00 / Hour Closes June 1, 2027

About the role

As a Casual Event Security Guard with Parthenais Security Services, you will be responsible for supporting the safety, security, and orderly operation of a variety of events and client sites. Guards may be assigned to festivals, concerts, sporting events, community events, private functions, licensed areas, temporary event sites, or other client locations based on operational requirements. Duties may include monitoring entrances and exits, conducting access control, verifying tickets, credentials, passes, or wristbands, patrolling assigned areas, monitoring restricted or staff-only locations, and assisting with crowd movement and line management. Event Security Guards are expected to maintain a professional and visible security presence while interacting respectfully with guests, event staff, vendors, volunteers, clients, and members of the public. Guards may be required to provide directions, answer general questions, assist with lost persons or property, identify potential safety concerns, and report suspicious activity or violations of event or client policies. Guards may also respond to disturbances, medical incidents, intoxicated or disruptive individuals, unauthorized access, property concerns, and other security-related situations. Employees are expected to use professional communication and verbal de-escalation whenever appropriate, request supervisory assistance when needed, and contact police, fire, or paramedic services when circumstances require emergency response. Accurate reporting is an important part of the position. Guards may be required to document incidents, observations, interventions, patrol activity, and other relevant information using MyPSS, company reporting systems, or written reports. Casual / On-Call Employment This is a casual, on-call position and does not provide guaranteed or regularly scheduled hours. Work becomes available only when Parthenais Security Services requires staffing for scheduled events, temporary assignments, client sites, contract coverage, employee absences, or other operational needs. The amount of available work may vary significantly from week to week and throughout the year depending on client demand, event schedules, seasonal activity, and available contracts. When shifts become available, eligible guards will normally be notified and offered the opportunity to claim available assignments through MyPSS. Available shifts will generally be posted on a first come, first served basis, meaning guards who accept an available shift first may be assigned that shift, subject to required qualifications, licensing, training, site-specific requirements, and operational considerations. Employees are not provided with a fixed weekly schedule and may choose whether to accept available shifts based on their own availability. Once a guard accepts and is assigned a shift through MyPSS, however, they are expected to attend and complete that assignment in accordance with PSS attendance, uniform, conduct, and operational policies. There may be periods where numerous shifts are available and other periods where little or no work is offered. Employment in this role should therefore not be considered a guarantee of any specific number of hours, shifts, or weekly income. Because of the variable and unpredictable nature of casual on-call work, PSS does not recommend that employees rely on this position as their primary or sole source of income. This role is best suited to individuals seeking an opportunity to earn additional income alongside another job, school, other commitments, or existing employment. Some assignments may arise with limited notice due to new contracts, client requests, special events, employee absences, or last-minute staffing requirements. Guards who maintain broad availability, keep their MyPSS profile and availability current, and respond promptly to posted shifts may have greater opportunities to obtain work. Shifts may include days, evenings, overnight hours, weekends, statutory holidays, and extended event hours depending on the assignment.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a valid Ontario Security Guard Licence, valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification, and valid Smart Serve certification. Applicants must also be at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. Guards must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including wearing an issued or approved bullet-resistant vest and other required uniform or protective equipment for extended periods, standing and walking for prolonged periods, working in crowded environments, and performing duties outdoors in varying weather conditions. Flexible availability may be required, including evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, overnight shifts, extended event hours, and occasional assignments offered with limited notice. Reliable transportation to assigned work locations is required. Employees must also have reliable access to a compatible device and internet connection to use MyPSS for shift offers, scheduling, reporting, company communications, and operational information. Previous security experience, event security experience, crowd management experience, customer service experience, and bilingualism in English and French are considered assets. Use of Force and/or Handcuffing training is also considered an asset. Where operationally beneficial, PSS may, at its sole discretion, cover all or a portion of the cost for an employee to obtain PSS-approved Use of Force, Handcuffing, or related training. Any financial assistance is subject to operational requirements, training availability, prior PSS approval, and applicable company policies. Funding or reimbursement is not guaranteed and does not constitute an entitlement or condition of employment.
